There's nothing like the expectant jubilation of taking off on an excursion you've planned and looked forward to. But sometimes—for your sanity, if nothing else—you've just gotta get away, on the spot, in the moment, and with no notice.
The same goes for your writing and editing work. It's a good practice to discipline yourself either to carve out a certain amount of time each day to write or to adhere to a daily/weekly word count goal. Such diligence will ensure you get your manuscript done and give you the confidence to take a well-earned break sans guilt.
So go ahead, play hooky. Get away from the work part of your creative work and let your imagination and spirit go wild. And be prepared to catch some delicious inspiration!
